To: Griggs County Central School District families

In the spring of 2022, Griggs County Central School District, and facility consultants, conducted a district-wide assessment of all facilities and evaluated future needs. Some challenges were identified, and a community committee made up of a cross-section of stakeholders was established to help with future planning in the district.

The community committee consulted the Donovan Group that conducted a community survey to gather valuable feedback and assist in future planning and building solutions that meet the needs of the community as it continues to grow. The survey determined that 82% of respondents supported a building project but the cost needed to be carefully considered. The initial survey asked respondents about a 14-million-dollar project and a 9-million-dollar project and, following the responses on the survey, the district decided to bring a smaller amount to a public referendum vote.

On August 9, 2023, the Griggs County Central School Board unanimously passed a resolution to hold a special bond election on Tuesday, September 26. The bond is for 7.9 million dollars for the purpose of providing funds, together with any other funds available, to construct an addition to the school building to improve safety and increase academic and athletic space, and to otherwise improve, renovate, remodel, construct and equip school property and make site improvements to school property.

The polling location will be the Griggs County Central School District library on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, with polls opening at 9am and closing at 7pm. Absentee ballot information can be found on the school district website.

Please see the GCC website, under documents then Referendum Information, which is a page dedicated to as much referendum information as possible. Information will also be provided to the Griggs County Courier to share with the public. GCC will be hosting public meetings on Wednesday, August 30 at 6:30pm and Monday, September 18 at 6:30pm. If there is a local group or organization that would like me to meet with them, please reach out to the school 701-797-3114, to set up a date and time for me to answer questions.
